About Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

The Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust provides health and social care services to people in their own homes and in their local community. It runs Torbay Hospital (providing acute hospital services) as well as five community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Brixham.

The Trust supports around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and sees over 78,000 people in the A&E department annually. It serves a resident population of approximately 286,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.

The Trust employs over 6,500 staff, including doctors, nurses, social workers, consultants, and allied health professionals, as well as highly skilled managers, administrators, and technical experts. The Trust also has over 350 volunteers (and growing) who make a difference every day to the people we care for and the services we provide.

The Trust was the first NHS Trust in England to integrate hospital and community care with social care.

What is an NHS Charity?

NHS Charities provide extra care and support for NHS patients and staff, enabling health services to do more. We do not replace core funding, we enhance what is already available, providing additional support that improves services for patients and staff.

We are the legal way the NHS receives, holds and spends charitable funds, and are dedicated to solely supporting the NHS. We exist for the benefit of current and future NHS patients and staff.

The charity NHS Charities Together has created a short film to help raise the awareness of the work of NHS charities and explain how the sector is structured. This film explains what an NHS charity is, the work they do, the different settings in which they operate and that they work with NHS staff, patients, and volunteers.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity is the NHS charity making things better for our local hospitals and for our community. Funding the big and little things that make a difference to our patients, their families and the staff that treat them.
